A practical way to give a big idea enough detail to guide what comes next.
Before jumping to a plan or finished product, describe the world around the outcome. Give it enough shape that you can begin to recognize it.
This is one way of building the world described in Make it make sens.
Begin with the world around it.
What can you see?
What can you hear?
What are you making, doing, or sharing?
Who is there?
How does the work move through your day?
What feels different in your body, surroundings, or relationships?
The answers can include practical details. They can also include images, sensations, fragments of language, and emotional qualities. The point is not to predict everything. It is to make the desired future specific enough to guide a choice.
Don’t hand over the missing decisions.
It is easier than ever to ask a tool to generate a plan, a brand, a page, or a whole project. If you are not yet intimately familiar with what you are trying to build, the tool will fill in what you leave out.
Every nuance you do not name becomes a decision something else makes for you. The result may be plausible. It may even look finished. But plausible is not the same as particular, and finished is not the same as right.
Get clearer on the dream before you ask anything—or anyone—to build it.
This is also where artificial intelligence complicates the picture. Generating options is easy. Recognizing what belongs is still the work.
